Mixed styles

At Advanced Music
we encourage classical and popular music groups to merge and play in new and inte-resting combinations. For example, it is not unusual to have a pop-style band with a qua-rtet of violins as part of the group!

Bands and ensembles are a great way to be involved in a group as a student. They are extremely focused and a teacher is always present to direct all aspect of group performance, from musical composition to choreography.

What's the difference between a band and an ensemble?
Traditionally ensembles are comprised of same or mixed groups of classically based instruments such as violin, classical guitar, flute, piano, etc.

Bands, on the other hand, are usually made up of various combinations of drums, bass guitar, guitar, saxophone, keyboard and vocals. Our students come together to form all sorts of band styles from jazz to swing and rock.

Designed to match each students skill level
All bands and ensembles are grouped into level of competency. Beginners are encouraged to play in a junior band within 6 months of starting lessons. Junior bands learn to play 4 songs and are invited to perform at concerts for parents and friends along with other groups from the school.

Students have opportunity to have recordings made in our own special digital recording suite.

Recordings can be for the beginner vocalist right through to a finished album for a band. Our studio is also used to make recordings for dance shows and competitions, and students can have accompanist musical pieces recorded for use in concert performances or exams.

Pieces are recorded in CD format and can be played back on any sound system.

A valuable learning tool
Making a recording - especially for vocalists, is a very important aid in the learning process. It allows the students to hear themselves as other hear them, making it easier to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses in their performance. It is also a great way for students to keep a record of progress as they improve their musical abilities over time.

Professional digital mastering
While most students will make use of our recording studio to help with their studies, exams or performances, our studio also has the capacity to professionally master recordings for national and international theatrical release.
